چکیده
Background: Sepsis is defined as “life-threatening organ dysfunction, caused by a dysregulated host response to infection”. Neonatal sepsis the most common cause of morbidity and mortality in neonatal period. Early diagnosis difficult. Therefore, this study was conducted with objective assess diagnostic accuracy procalcitonin marker its comparison C-reactive protein. Methods: The present hospital-based descriptive comparative study. A total 59 neonates were enrolled. All suspected for admitted NICU enrolled on basis inclusion exclusion criteria. detailed clinical examination done. Blood sample collected procalcitonin, protein blood culture. Statistical analysis performed. Results: In our sensitivity (88.46%), specificity (87.88%), positive predictive value (85.19%), negative (90.63%) (88.14%). Diagnostic (69.70%), (88.46%) (77.97%). maximum followed Conclusions: all patient gram organism whereas 50% Staphylococcus aureus candida cases out 6 cases, 5 (83.3%) positive.

Procalcitonin: A Reliable Marker for the Diagnosis of Neonatal Sepsis
Objective(s) In the last few years, serum procalcitonin has been proposed as an early marker of infections in neonates, with varying results. In this study, we aimed to investigate the value of procalcitonin, and C- reactive protein in establishing the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis. Materials and Methods Blood samples were collected at admission from 69 neonates with suspected infection (admi...

PURPOSE We evaluated serum procalcitonin (PCT) as a diagnostic marker of neonatal sepsis, and compared PCT levels with C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 269 neonates with a suspected infection, admitted to Wonkwang University School of Medicine & Hospital between January 2011 and December 2012, for whom PCT and CRP values had been obta...

Background: The appropriateness of using serum levels of procalcotonin (PCT) for early diagnosis of newborn sepsis is still controversial. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to compare the usefulness of PCT with those of serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and white blood cell (WBC) counts in the diagnosis and response to treatment of neonatal sepsis. Methods: A total of 47 ...
